VirtaMed awarded top Swiss exporterMarch 26, 2019
Over 95% of VirtaMed’s high-fidelity medical training simulators are exported from the company’s headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, to medical educators around the world. From the USA to China, the 11-year-old company aspires to change the way that medical skills are taught using virtual-reality based simulators.
The annual Export Awards, hosted by Switzerland Global Enterprise, recognizes companies for their international strategy and success exporting beyond the domestic market. With three finalists presented at the “Aussenwirtschaftsforum” Foreign Trade Forum, judges were looking for demonstrated success and potential to continue expanding their global operations.
The trophy was presented by Ruth Metzler-Arnold, Chairwoman of S-GE. “VirtaMed AG has succeeded in convincing the world market with its high-precision simulators. The company supplies customers both in emerging and mature markets via its well thought-out export strategy,” says Ruth Metzler-Arnold proudly. “In addition, VirtaMed AG’s success story shows how an international sales strategy can contribute to the rapid growth of a company in Switzerland.”
VirtaMed has made an impact on global medical training since being founded in 2007, when their first hysteroscopy simulator was sent to Saudi Arabia. Since then, the team has grown to over 100 people, with over 20 nationalities represented and 30 languages spoken within the company. The company’s vision, to change the way that medical skills are taught, directs the team to facilitate medical educators across the world; wherever medical training is needed, a VirtaMed simulator provides a realistic and risk-free environment to learn techniques and best practices.
“VirtaMed is successful because medical educators agree that simulation is a meaningful part of the contemporary physician’s curriculum,” said Dr. Raimundo Sierra, Co-CEO of VirtaMed. “We are proud to work with hospitals, societies and medical device companies to improve physician training, regardless of their nationality.”
With over 30 validation studies published in peer-reviewed journals, VirtaMed simulators have been scientifically demonstrated to be a realistic and relevant complement and alternative to other forms of training, and users benefit from a risk-free environment that prepares trainees for their first use of medical devices or their first interventions.
In 2015 VirtaMed founded its office in Florida, USA, and in 2018 the team created a permanent presence in Shanghai, China. Across other countries, VirtaMed works together with a network of partners to ensure that a simulation expert is close to every installed simulator.
