Richard Wolf USA corner the market with most realistic simulator
Custom-built HystSim™ uses original PRINCESS™ scope for state-of-the-art surgeon training
In December 2010, Richard Wolf USA decided to advance their way of presenting the PRINCESS™ Resectoscope to the next level: They ordered a custom-made virtual reality training simulator from VirtaMed AG. The existing HystSim™ had been adapted quickly to include all Richard Wolf components, and in January 2011 the highly realistic hysteroscopy simulator arrived in the US. Now it is used to conduct practical training courses and to present the PRINCESS™ Resectoscope at conferences, such as the upcoming ACOG in Washington, DC in May 2011.
VirtaMed adapted the original PRINCESS™ Resectoscope for use with the hysteroscopy simulator HystSim™ and also added Richard Wolf branding during the simulation and on the feedback report after each virtual procedure. Sales representatives travel light with the portable simulator, the setup of the system is simple and quick, and messy wet labs are avoided.
For trade shows it is an impressive way to present products, and it is available for surgeons to perfect their skills 24/7. Due to the efficient training, physicians achieve fast progress in the learning curve – which makes it easy to convince them of the many advantages of the PRINCESS™ Resectoscope.
Practical courses and interactive presentation at conferences
During hands-on courses, surgeons can learn the correct handling of the PRINCESS™ Resectoscope, how to do a diagnostic hysteroscopy and how to deal with the fulcrum effect.
When resecting polyps or myoma, surgeons safely train hand-eye-coordination and their resection technique. The simulator facilitates learning with objective performance feedback during and after each training.
The simulator setup attracts surgeons at medical congresses and during hands-on courses at hospitals or training centers. One of the positive financial effects for Richard Wolf are the lower disposable costs involved to train surgeons until they reach the desired confidence and skill level.

The HystSim™ virtual reality trainer designed for Richard Wolf will be presented at the 59th Annual Clinical Meeting (ACM) of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in Washington, DC.
Richard Wolf USA looks very much forward to meeting you between May 2-4, 2011 in the “Walter E. Washington Convention Center” at booth #2531.
