HOW VIRTAMED CAME TO LIFE
VirtaMed’s virtual reality simulators provide instructional teaching and training of different diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic interventions.
The first simulator has been developed at the ETH Zurich and other Swiss universities as part of a large research effort involving 16 PhD students for a combined 24 years of research.
Today, many teaching institutions and medical device companies use VirtaMed’s simulators globally for training courses and physician training.
Photorealistic Surgical Simulation
The idea of using computer-based surgical simulators for training of prospective surgeons has been a topic of research for more than a decade.
However, surgical simulation is only stepwise being included into the medical curriculum of model teaching hospitals. In the past, mainly the lack of a reasonable level of realism hindered the widespread use.
